Mobile Commerce: Why You Need a Mobile Site Right Now.

When I first began working in Search Engine Marketing back in the early 2000s, I often had to work hard at proving to companies that they needed my services. At that time business owners didn’t understand digital. Only a few of them had websites, and those that did couldn’t grasp why they needed to do anything else. Starbucks Mobile Card scanner

Over and over I said the same phrase “You’ll be miles ahead of your competitors”.

Flash forward to 2012, and we are seeing the same situation. The facts about Mobile Commerce are undeniable, and no one should build or update a new website without having it also be mobile ready.

  • According to a recent PEW study “”During the holiday season, 25% of cell owners used their phone inside stores to gather price comparisons; 24% used them to look up online reviews. And 19% of those who searched for a better price on an in-store product eventually bought the product online.” Aaron Smith Senior Research Specialist, Pew Internet Project, Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project, January 30, 2012.”
  • “The “Mobile Application Business Model” study released in February by market intelligence company ABI Research found that overall revenues from mobile applications, including in-app purchases, pay-per-downloads, in-app advertising and subscriptions will reach $46 billion by 2016, more than four times greater than the $8.5 billion earned in 2011.”
  • “As of Q42011, 46 percent of US mobile consumers had smartphones, and that figure is growing quickly. In fact, 60 percent of those who said they got a new device within the last three months chose a smartphone over a feature phone.”
  • “In its second annual mobile commerce audit, digital strategy firm Acquity Group found that 12% of the top 500 Internet retailers had sites optimized for mobile phones, up from 4% a year ago.”

Get ahead of the pack and make your site mobile ready, build a mobile app, and put yourself where your customers are living and shopping. Don’t wait until everyone else is there and getting YOUR market share is infinitely more difficult and expensive.
