We’ve all heard it for years now “Social Media is growing!” But how many of you have actually seen the stats? It’s amazing how much growth there really is in this online channel. New networks like Pinterest and Instagram seem to really be gaining a foothold, and some believe they are harbingers of the future-web: one dominated by images rather than text.
This concept is fascinating at first glance, but let’s remember that Google and other search engines need text to properly crawl and index your site, so that you can be found. So, what do we do with images? Make sure that your Alt Text and source file URLs are using the keywords that you want to rank for. Don’t be spammy and stuff them full of keywords. Use the proper keywords that relate closely with the subject of the image. Let’s remember that we’re making our sites for users too and not solely for search engine robots.
